Founded in 1968, the POONGSAN Corporation is a copper-specialized company that leads the global market. Based on copper and copper alloy materials, Poongsan has devoted itself to the wrought copper (copper processing) business and the defense industry focused on ammunition, contributing to national economic development and self-defense.

Poongsan, which established the first wrought-copper industry in Korea, built a large-scale wrought-copper plant equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in the Onsan non-ferrous metal complex in the early 1980s, securing global competitiveness. In the 1990s, the company began operating overseas plants and grew into a global wrought-copper manufacturer in terms of equipment capacity and production scale, becoming the largest supplier in the domestic copper material market and a major company in the wrought-copper industry, serving as a driving force for industrial development.

Poongsan produces non-ferrous metal products such as copper and copper alloy sheets and plates, bars and rods, and copper processed products (coin blanks, copper roofing materials), meeting domestic demand while accounting for a large share of exports. By establishing overseas production bases that connect the U.S.–China–Southeast Asia Pan-Pacific belt, the company is realizing globalization of production and sales.

Recently, Poongsan has expanded the sales proportion of high value-added copper products such as thin sheets, thin tubes, and bimetal coin blanks through equipment advancement and increased investment in R&D. The company is also pursuing strategic partnerships with leading global companies to enhance product quality and expand export markets. Meanwhile, Poongsan is actively developing various new materials suitable for future high-tech industries and creating new demand. In addition, by promoting Six Sigma quality initiatives and introducing an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, the company is striving to realize its vision of becoming the world’s leading specialized company based on the advanced materials industry.
